Type 2 Susan B proofs
Hello folks, can anybody help me with this? I just came across 5 1979 US proof sets, plastic cases and mint boxes look like brand new. After doing some brief research they look like type 2 or clear "S" sets.
The Susan B's in the sets may be worth some $$ as they are super clear strikes, full and clear S mint marks and clear detailed talons on the eagle. Is it worth getting the Susan B's seperated and graded or leave the sets intact and sell them that way? Any help will be greatly appreciated! |
Re: Type 2 Susan B proofs
If you can find a buyer expect to get 60-70FRN a piece. Breaking them open requires nothing. Getting them graded will probably cost you 30FRN a piece minimum.
60FRN profit give or take. If those are PR70 then you are talking about another ball game. Before I would pay for them to be slabbed, I would see if my dealer would take them off me, or see what eBay will do. Here is a caveat. Susan B's are NOT in high demand UNLESS high mint state or perfect proof state. The Great Ag |
Re: Type 2 Susan B proofs
Cool, thanks! I'll take them in to a coin guy I know and see what he thinks.
They may be 70"s from what I have read and by looking at them. Every detail One is supposed to look for is there in spades even through the plastic. These 5 sets were part of a bag I bought at a garage sale for $40. There is other proof sets, uncirculated sets, some blue Ikes and 5 1883 morgans. I like to check every thing in the bag with a buy like this and these, to my suprise, may be the diamond I diden't see!:applause_:ok: |

finding a buyer is the key. The Susan B is one of the most butt-ugly coins on the planet

Yep they are, but anything with a queen looks worse!
As a set : 1979-S (type 2) $95.00 to $110.00 according to http://coins.ha.com/info/typevalues.php?#mint :9536::10_1_20::applause_ |
